From a collective desire, the Syndicate was born

For a time, all was good.

BUT THEN EVERYTHING CHANGED

In the aftermath of the First World War, a series of ancient Egyptian and Mayan artifacts were unearthed, revealing not mere static relics, but functioning pieces of a lost technology. While these discoveries were quickly hidden from the public, the intrigue they sparked within influential circles would not be extinguished.
Thus, a radical idea began weaving its way through enlightened aristocratic minds: Bring these artifacts together and use the secrets hidden within to covertly enlighten the nations of the world and bring everlasting peace.

Monuments to the Syndicate’s creed sprang forth in major cities across the globe, each paying homage to the design of the artifacts from ground floor to shining spire. These monuments became regional hubs known as Sanctums from which operatives spread the Syndicate’s vision of light and beauty.
But one building outshined all others, the Syndicate’s global headquarters, the New York Sanctum. A massive complex of soaring towers, glass facades, and integrated transportation systems suspended high above the city streets. Arguably the most influential of the organization’s founders, Arthur DeCosta, called it home until it was razed to the ground and extinguished from existence. His body was never found.
The resulting ebb and flow, working to bring light to the world versus prioritizing self-interest at any cost, took hold. The creed that was once crystal clear to all in the Syndicate became opaque, requiring a new kind of operative.
Thus began the meticulous recruitment of those who would come to be known as Vigilantes. No longer driven by a common purpose, Vigilantes adapted to navigating a web of half-truths within the Syndicate while watching their backs on the streets which continues to this day.
